This was a fresh install of subnautica last night just to make sure there was nothing corrupted.There was known issue with some older AMD Radeon Drivers which prevented Subnautica from launching. I've now clicked "create shortcut" from the epic library and it has this whole ://apps/Jaguar?action=launch&silent=true url thing going on - is that the problem? Have I set the wrong file for the executable?Įdit - Ok now I've just tried to use the subnautica.exe in the game folder without the Quest 2 link plugged in just to check the executable file (which maybe I should have done before) and it doesn't launch the game - the oculus software keeps trying to take over and when I close the oculus software, the game then doesn't go on to load normally on my monitor, it just stops altogether. If I click play in oculus VR - same thing. If I click play in steam VR - black screen then returns to the menu. I've got the oculus link software installed - which works fine with my No Man's Sky on steam in VR.
The "target" of the file used to start the game is subnautica.exe in the game folder (the one with the peeper icon) Added Subnautica to steam as non steam game, gone to properties and enabled VR. Ok - so let me lay out what I've done step by step just to be sure:

I've seen YT'ers play Subnautica in VR and I thought the Quest 2 using the Rift software installed meant it be used as a Rift for PC games. I have other games I'd like to play in VR like fallout and skyrim, but I bought this quest to try out the VR experience of Subnautica. I have steamVR installed - and a good link cable to my Quest 2, I just tried No Man's Sky in VR and it worked just fine. I can see the icon in VR to launch, but when I press play, the screen goes black a few seconds then goes back to the VR menu environment. I have the oculus app on my PC and I've enabled "unknown games" to be a allowed. It's the Epic games version, I've added it to my steam as a "non steam" game, and enabled "vr" in the game properties. I bought a Quest 2 a few days ago and have been trying that long to get subnautica to launch. SOLVED - OK - I'm VERY happy to report that Subnautica is now running, using CV/1 advice of removing it from my steam library, and then following Kirkyeehee's advice of how to run it in the Epic library ), it's now running and seems fine.įew niggles about the UI, but I expected that after reading and seeing other YTers.
